Rechargeable flat reading light for bed, dimmable book light with timer
4.7 / 5.0 (based on more than 2613 reviews)
Now that the evenings get dark earlier, you read by lamplight more often and immediately notice whether that light feels pleasant or gets in the way.
You want to read a little longer. But that bright light bothers your eyes, or your partner is already turning over.
Sound familiar? Bright ceiling light is too much. Your phone too. And a regular lamp lights up the whole room, while you just want to enjoy your book.
This reading light gives you exactly the right glow: warm, soft and pleasant for your eyes. You read. Your partner sleeps. Your eyes stay relaxed.
The light is directed so precisely that your partner hardly notices it's on, because it rests on your page instead of above your head.
Why this works differently
Reading before sleep feels relaxing, but the kind of light makes a difference. Research (Chang et al., PNAS 2015) shows that people who read from a brightly lit screen in the evening become less sleepy than people who read a paper book. With this reading light, you simply read from paper, and you decide how warm and how soft the light is.
The biggest difference from a regular reading light: the light doesn't come from above or from the side. It lies as a thin panel directly on the page. As a result, it falls evenly across the text, without shadows from your hand or head, and barely shines into the room.
This reading light compared with a night light or clip-on lamp
| This light | Night light | Clip-on lamp | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Doesn't light up the whole room | Yes | No | Partially |
| No clip on your pages | Yes | Yes | No |
| Works without a power outlet | Yes | Rarely | Often |
| Timer switches it off automatically | Yes | Rarely | Rarely |
| Dimmable, 3 light colors | Yes | Sometimes | Sometimes |
How it works
This is a flat, rechargeable reading light: a thin, transparent light panel with a slim base. Unlike a clip-on lamp, you place it flat on the open page and read directly through it. The LEDs illuminate the text evenly and without glare. With the buttons on the base, you switch it on, choose warm, neutral or bright white light, and dim it to exactly enough. On the small display, you set the timer (0 to 99 minutes), so the lamp switches off automatically when you fall asleep. Stand it upright on the base and it works as soft ambient lighting.

Our customer service team is ready to help if anything is not to your satisfaction, and we are happy to think along with you. If the reading light still does not fit your reading routine, you have 30 days to return it.
Instructions
Charge the lamp with the included USB cable. Place it on the page you are reading, turn it on with the button on the base, and choose the light color and brightness that feel right. When you go to the next page, lift the lamp briefly and place it on the next page. If you want, set the timer before you lie down.
Where can you use it?
In bed, next to a sleeping partner. The light stays on your page and the rest of the room stays calm.
As a digital detox. Phone away, book in hand: a normal reading moment before bed, without a bright screen.
On vacation, in a camper or tent. Rechargeable and cordless, so you do not need an outlet.
On your nightstand. Standing upright on its base, it gives off soft ambient light.
Who is it for
For anyone who would rather read a page in the evening than keep scrolling for another half hour, and wants to do that a bit more often this year. For readers who want to read in bed without lighting up the bedroom. No neck light, no clip pulling on your pages. Just your book, with the right light on it.
Also a thoughtful gift for the reader in your life: for yourself, your partner, or to give as a gift.
Less suitable if you mainly read on a tablet or e-reader with its own lighting: it does not need this light.
What users say
Users especially mention the soft light: pleasant for reading, and calming enough to fall asleep right afterward. We also often hear that evenings become nicer, because you pick up a book again instead of your phone.

Frequently asked questions
How exactly does the lamp work?
You place it flat on the page and read through the illuminated, transparent panel. The light falls evenly across the text and hardly shines into the room.
What is the difference compared to a clip-on book light?
A clip-on book light hangs above your book and shines onto the page at an angle, often creating a bright spot and shadows. This reading light lies flat on the page and illuminates it evenly.
